Billy has been going to the local diner where Sarah works as a waitress for weeks and finally mustered the courage to ask her out. A week after a passionate tryst, she calls him up out of the blue crying. He goes to her apartment to investigate only to find her almost identical looking roommate Ellen, dead on the couch of an apparent heroin overdose; Sarah is crying in the bedroom. He gathers Sarah’s belongings and they hit the road. While rummaging through her bag, Sarah discovers Ellen’s wallet and a letter from an attorney stating her uncle had just died, and his will had listed Ellen as his sole heir to his fortune. Billy gets the idea to use Sarah as Ellen’s doppelgänger and claim the money for themselves. When they arrive in Texas, they discover this scheme was maybe not as quick and dirty as they anticipated.

The Negative: The drug dealer Eddie was a weird seemingly random character that somehow tied the film together. I can only imagine what those nobles in Russia thought when they tried to assassinate Rasputin. Is he some sort of wizard? Why isn’t he dying? Every time he shows up again when we think he’s definitely dead, I’m shocked and utterly irritated.  There’s a scene where he sticks his thumb up Sarah’s nose to be threatening and then sucks his thumb…ugh dude WTF?! If the filmmakers wanted to make it a memorable scene, well, mission accomplished. The plot-twists for myself were on the predictable side, with exception with the final climax. The ending was a bit lackluster and the final line of dialogue was blah.

The positive: This film played out like classic film noir; lots of twists and turns. You may think you know who the villain is, but discover many other unexpected bad guys creeping about.  One of the villain’s demise was shockingly awesome.

Rushlights in my opinion is a good date night rental. Some decent sensuality and will have you talking afterwards.
