“Find The Truth and Make It Hurt.” Director Spike Lee is one of the best American directors working in Hollywood today. So when he announced that his next film would be the remake to the 2003 Korean cult classic “Oldboy,” genre fans were excited to see what Spike Lee could do with an American version. Would Spike Lee retain the original violence and revenge themes? From the looks of the new poster released from FilmDistrict/Universal, it certainly seems so.

Park Chan-wook directed the original Korean film, which has grown in infamy since it was released in the States in 2005, while screenwriter Mark Protosevich (“I Am Legend,” “Thor”) wrote the remake. The film has the same premise, a man is mysteriously kidnapped and held against his will for years (in the original, it was 15 years, while in the remake, it’s 20). Read the synopsis below:

“Joe Doucett, an advertising executive, is kidnapped and held prisoner for twenty years in solitary confinement. After he is suddenly released, he goes on a mission to find the person responsible for his imprisonment, later discovering that his life is still caught in conspiracy and torment.”

The poster (via Moviefone) below looks amazing! Joe’s weapon of choice is a hammer, so it’s going to be interesting to see how he uses it in the new film. Smashy! Smashy!

The new Spike Lee joint stars Josh Brolin, Sharlto Copley, Elizabeth Olsen, Michael Imperioli, Samuel L. Jackson, Pom Klementieff, Richard Portnow, Lance Reddick, and Max Casella.

“Oldboy” will hit theaters everywhere on November 27, 2013. Just in time for Thanksgiving!
