Ryan Murphy’s “American Horror Story: Freak Show” is set to bring the creepy back to cable television just in time for fall and the Halloween season, but Murphy is sparing some of his attention from the horror and lending his television magic to the world of real life crimes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy is bringing “American Crime Story” to FX. Just like “American Horror Story,” “American Crime Story” will be an anthology series with every season on crimes that have shaped the news cycle and the American imagination. The first season, composed of 10 episodes, is called “The People v. O.J. Simpson.” This particular season is based on Jeffrey Toobin’s book, “The Run of His Live: The People v. O.J. Simpson.”

The season will take a look at the trial from the perspective of the lawyers and will expose the behind-the-scenes drama involved in the case. It will also explore what gave the prosecution the reasonable doubt it needed to get Simpson off; the prosecution’s bravado, problems with the defense, and the LAPD’s own tragic relationship with the African-American community.

Murphy stated that this was an “exciting project” for him, saying he’d been looking for the right vehicle to serve for an addition to his anthology projects. “…I’ve been looking for the right property which could serve as an extension of the ‘American Horror Story’ brand I love so much,” he said. “The O.J. case was as tragic as it was fascinating–it seemed like everyone had a stake in the outcome. It was really the beginning of the modern tabloid age.”
