Oprah Winfrey and Ava DuVernay, who worked together on “Selma,” are teaming up once again for another entertainment endeavor, but this time, it’s for television! Winfrey and DuVernay are developing a television show for Winfrey’s TV channel, OWN.

The Hollywood Reporter states that the two are developing a drama adapted from “Queen Sugar,” a novel by Natalie Baszile. Winfrey herself is set to have an acting role.

Winfrey said she wanted to adapt the story after reading the book. “I loved this book and immediately saw it as a series for OWN,” she said. “The story’s themes of reinventing your life, parenting alone, family connections and conflicts, and building new relationships are what I believe will connect our viewers to this show. DuVernay also said she “was captivated by the idea of a modern woman wrestling with identity, family, culture and the echhoes of history.” This is DuVernay’s first TV show; she will write for the show as well as act as director and executive producer. Winfrey will also act as an executive producer.
