Jim Sturgess is defrauding banks in the new teaser trailer for the upcoming biopic, ‘Electric Slide,’ in which he plays real-life robber Eddie Dodson. The clip for the music-fueled crime film was distributed by Paragon Releasing, in anticipation of the drama’s release in US theaters and on VOD on April 3.

‘Electric Slide’ marks the feature film writing and directorial debuts of Tristan Patterson, who forgoed the style of crafting a straight-forward biopic about Dodson. Instead, the filmmaker took aesthetic cues from the robber, as well as the unique moment he occupied in L.A.’s countercultural history. The result mimics a New Wave dream about the romantic outlaw who sought self-reinvention and immortality in paradise.

The action film follows the decisions made by Dodson, who was a Melrose Avenue antiques dealer before he decided to become a bank robber, as he turned to crime. As he sealed his fate as one of the most infamous robbers in history, he drove to the banks in a black ’63 Ford Galaxy LTD, and dressed as an elegant criminal.

‘Electric Slide’ also serves as a snapshot into life in L.A. in 1983, as well as a love letter to a man who quit his reality in order to live in the Hollywood movie of his dreams full-time. He ended up robbing 64 banks in only nine months, which is more than anymore has done before or since. The film also features an electric mix of songs from such such musicians as Iggy Pop, Magazine and the Psychedelic Furs, as Dodson listened to mix tapes during his getaways.

Besides Sturgess, the action crime film also stars Isabel Lucas, Patricia Arquette, Christopher Lambert, ChloĆ« Sevigny, Vinessa Shaw and John Doe. Watch the trailer for, and check out images from, ‘Electric Slide’ below.
