Legendary actress Lin Shaye was honored for her contributions in the horror genre by being named the “Godmother of Horror” at this past Mother’s Day weekend Wizard World Comic Con in Philadelphia. The performer was celebrated by Wizard World as she’s promoting her upcoming horror film, ‘Insidious: Chapter 3,’ which is set to be distributed in theaters by Focus Features on June 5.

Besides reprising her role as gifted psychic Elise Rainier in the prequel in the popular supernatural series, Shaye also starred in more than 20 other horror films, including ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ and ‘Snakes on a Plane.’ While discussing her character in the latest ‘Insidious’ movie, which was written by, and co-stars, first time feature film director, Leigh Whannell, Shaye said “I’m kind of the unlikely hero. I’m not the hot young guy or the gorgeous girl. I love the character, and so do the fans. I have a really youthful fan base, which is so much fun for me because I’m so old. I am the happiest I’ve ever been in my entire life.”

Renowned horror and film enthusiast Aaron Sager presented Shaye with the honor during a special Wizard World Presentation. While accepting her award, the actress provided fans with insider information on ‘Insidious: Chapter 3.’ She also discussed her status as the rare older woman to defy industry stereotypes during the celebratory presentation that was held by the entertainment and events company.

“Honoring Lin Shaye as the Godmother of Horror was a no-brainer as we celebrate Wizard World Comic Con Philadelphia this Mother’s Day weekend,” Wizard World spokesman Jerry Milani said. “Lin’s legacy in films of all genres make her queen of the movie scene, and her unparalleled, haunting performances in so many movies, especially the ‘Insidious’ franchise, make her the obvious and deserved choice for the Godmother of Horror Award.”
