Music Video: Love Won’t Make You Cry

Production: Michael Baker

Emotionally examining your feelings as you determinedly strive to stay true to your identity, as well as something that makes your life meaningful, can be an intensely poignant process. One of the most personally significant decisions in life that passionately defines your existence is whether or not you can make your romantic relationship work after you have gone through painful times together, and the other person has teared you down. New Jersey-based indie pop band bitter’s kiss has powerfully explored that difficult exploration into whether or not you should remain committed to your significant other during your most challenging times together in their music video for their song, ‘Love Won’t Make You Cry.’

The track is featured on bitter’s kiss’ self-titled debut album, which is now available. ‘Love Won’t Make You Cry’s video features alluring set pieces in iconic Paris settings, and enthrallingly chronicles the contemplative unfolding of a classic drama of two star crossed lovers. Chloe Baker, the duo’s versatile singer-songwriter-instrumentalist, once again effortlessly showcase her distinct talents as a musician in her vocals, lyrics and representation of the pain of becoming disconnected from the person you always thought you’d love.

Shot in beautiful gray tones that naturally reflect on the painful feelings of helplessness that Baker is feeling about her growing separation from her boyfriend, ‘Love Won’t Make You Cry’s video grippingly shows powerful shots of the two as they try to rekindle their love and move past their pain. But the musician compelling sings that love shouldn’t make you upset or tear you down, as she initially appears hesitant to discuss their relationship problems. While the singer’s boyfriend is also weary of rekindling their bond, Baker seemingly becomes more at ease as they run through Paris and talk at the Eiffel Tower. As the two seem to start having easy-going fun when they later go to the beach and a carnival, unfortunately nothing can ultimately save her from her pain, and the struggles in their relationship.

bitter’s kiss’ ‘Love Won’t Make You Cry’ music video powerfully embraces Baker’s talents as a singer, songwriter and performer. The song, which is featured on the indie pop band’s self-titled debut record, also emotionally and grippingly emphasizes declaration that your significant other shouldn’t make you sacrifice your hopes and dreams for heartache and shame, as love should come easily. The video also intriguingly reflects on the painful feelings of helplessness Baker is feeling about her growing sense of separation from her boyfriend, and her debate over whether they should try to rekindle their love and move past their pain. But as they both emotionally examine their feelings as they strive to stay true to their identities, they realize they are losing their relationship, as all hope in their bond is quickly fading.
