Paul Rudd stars as the title superhero in Marvel Studio’s ‘Ant-Man.’

Production has begun on the anticipated sci-fi film, ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp,’ Marvel Studios has confirmed. The upcoming drama will serve as the follow-up to the studio‘s box office and critically acclaimed 2015 superhero movie that’s based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name.

Paul Rudd is reprising his role of the series’ title protagonist. The Saturn Award-nominated actor is once again being joined by Evangeline Lilly, Michael Peña and Academy Award winner Michael Douglas, who are all returning to the roles they originated in the original film. Bobby Cannavale, Judy Greer, Abby Ryder Fortson, Tip “T.I.” Harris and David Dastmalchian are also reprising their supporting roles from ‘Ant-Man.’ The second installment is also welcoming several newcomers to the ‘Ant-Man’ movie series, including Michelle Pfeiffer, Laurence Fishburne, Hannah John-Kamen, Walton Goggins and Randall Park.

‘Ant-Man’ director Peyton Reed is also returning to helm Marvel Studios’ latest action-adventure film. The screenplay was written by Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, Andrew Barrer, Gabriel Ferrari and Rudd. The sequel, which is shooting in Atlanta and San Francisco, is set to opes in U.S. theaters on July 6, 2018.

‘Ant-Man and The Wasp,’ which is the latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is set in the aftermath of “Captain America: Civil War.’ Ant-Man’s alter-ego, Scott Lang (Rudd), grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a superhero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his home life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne (Lilly) and Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), who have an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside Hope’s new alter-ego, The Wasp, as the team works together to uncover secrets from their past.
