Album: ‘Candyland Volume 1’

Sometimes it takes the most extraordinary and unexpected connections and situations can help someone turn their difficult circumstances into a positive, life-affirming outlook. That’s certainly the case for singer-songwriter AV Super Sunshine, who re-invented himself over the last decade from a diagnosis of PTSD, severe depression and anxiety disorder into an indie rock and dance superstar. With the help of veteran pop-R&B producer Michael Bradford, the guitarist infused his just-released EDM album, ‘Candyland Volume 1’ with an excellent combination of deeply personal and engagingly universal emotions that surround people’s journey to cherish life again.

The musician’s 10-track record offers a riveting recollection of his medical journey throughout the intriguing blend of pop, rock and dance songs. AV Super Sunshine created engaging electronic radio mixes, radio edits and club mixes in order to help inspire and aid his listeners who are experiencing the same emotions that he has felt. He hopes that they can also completely re-imagine themselves, so that they can create a meaningful new existence, as well.

‘Candyland Volume 1’ begins with ‘Time Bomb (Radio Mix),’ which entrancingly builds towards a fiery, explosive hook. Throughout the entry, AV Super Sunshine has admitted that he feels as though he’s always driven by his sense of being a time bomb himself, as he’s ready to blow something up, which is a result of his PTSD. The electronic dance mix further notes how the singer-songwriter is always feeling as though he’s off track and falling out of grace. While the tune discusses the serious condition of what people experience when they feel as though they’re going to self destruct, the song still emits a powerful and energetic pop-dance vibe in its compelling lyrics.

‘Time Bomb (Radio Mix)’ then delves into the album’s sophomore track, ‘Are You Happy (Radio Mix), which thrives on its pulsating Euro-dance vocals and flowing synths. The tune is also driven by its energetic beats, which help make listeners want to dance, and turn their dark emotional stress into uplifting emotions.

‘Are You Happy (Radio Mix)’ then transitions into one of ‘Candyland Volume 1’s best entries, ‘Apple (Radio Mix),’ on which the vocalist proclaims that a new day has come, and it’s radiating sunshine on everyone. Driven by a dynamic pop-rock edge, the lyrics encourage everyone to enjoy life more. Reminiscent of Coldplay’s signature lyrics and vocals, the song is powerfully proclaim that people should strive to only be happy from now on, and not give into their darker emotions.

Another one of the record’s best tracks is its penultimate track, ‘Orange (Club Mix),’ which is a mid-tempo synth rock-driven love tune that’s dedicated to the musician’s current romantic partner Philomena, whom he credits with saving his life. The entry features an energetic and pulsating beat that will surely make its listeners want to dance. It perfectly emphasizes AV Super Sunshine’s much needed enthusiasm for life and passion about his connection with his love.

‘Orange (Club Mix)’ then transitions into ‘Candyland Volume 1’s final song, ‘Alien Abduction (Interview Mix).’ The track features the musician’s signature dance instrumentation, which perfectly supports his flowing vocals and harmonies. The sensual nature to the interview mix is so alluring, it’s bound to draw many listeners to understand his feelings of being influenced by outside forces. But the singer’s vocals perfectly highlight his determined nature to reclaim his independence, as he doesn’t want anyone else influencing his decisions and emotions.

Sometimes it takes the most incredible and surprising bonds and circumstances to help someone turn their difficult situations into a positive, life-affirming outlook. That’s certainly the case for AV Super Sunshine, who re-invented himself over the last decade from a diagnosis of PTSD, severe depression and anxiety disorder into an indie rock and dance superstar. As a result of his journey, the singer-songwriter infused ‘Candyland Volume 1’ with an excellent combination of deeply personal and engagingly universal emotions that surround people’s journey to cherish life again.
