Actor Paul Hogan, who is most remembered for his role in the ‘Crocodile Dundee’ trilogy, is allowed to return home to Los Angeles after the Australian Taxation Office banned him from leaving the country, FOXNews.com reported on September 3. He went to Sydney on August 20 to attend his mother’s funeral, and was served with an order, forcing him to stay in the country until he settle a multimillion dollar tax bill.
Hogan’s lawyers met with tax officials, and reached an agreement, allowing him to return to America. “While the Commissioner and Mr. Hogan remain in dispute on more general taxation issues, Mr. Hogan continues to protest his innocence and denies any wrongdoing,” Hogan’s lawyer Andrew Robinson said in a statement.
While the tax office wouldn’t comment on the case, Australian tax and crime investigators have fought with Hogan for five years, alleging he used offshore bank accounts to conceal earnings after the low-budge ‘Crocodile Dundee’ series became an international sensation. Hogan hasn’t been charged with tax evasion.
