Comic Con day one is done. Well, technically, it wasn’t even day one as Wednesday is just preview night. Still, I didn’t take the time to check out any of the convention center booths as I was out celebrating the upcoming release of Shark Night 3D.
In the parking lot of Petco Park, the film set up camp, which included food and drinks, a “bite booth” where you could get a green screen photo of yourself being attacked by a shark, the cast of Shark Night 3D and, best of all, a mechanical shark. Okay, perhaps it wasn’t the best part as I had a nice time chatting with the film’s stars, Sinqua Walls and Alyssa Diaz.
Diaz plays Maya who she describes as a “feisty, fierce woman,” but, most importantly, “when drama goes down, she’s there for her man” and that man is Malik, played by Walls. While Walls assures that his character is pretty tough, he’s not tough enough to defend his arm as poor Malik loses a limb during the film.
So now, a guy losing an arm; this movie has to be rated R, right? Wrong. While Shark Night certainly has a Piranha-esque feel to it, it won’t maintain that extreme gore factor, or the vulgarity for that matter, as it’s rated PG-13. Diaz hinted, “Sometimes you’re scared more of what you don’t see than what you do see.” Walls added, “And we got a good mix of what you do see and it’s cut together with some stuff that you don’t see, but you will definitely be out of your seats and you’ll definitely be afraid.”
As the film’s trailer is the only footage we’ve seen thus far, we’ll have to take their word for it, but the gang is certainly excited about what’s coming our way September 2nd.
So, that’s that for my Wednesday at Comic Con as, courtesy of the festivities tonight, I’ve had one too many “shark bites.” Check back tomorrow for more as I’ve got a day jam packed with events including a Twilight: Breaking Dawn press conference as well as the Game of Thrones panel. In the meantime, take a look at some photos from the Shark Night 3D party below and have a good laugh at my expense.
