During our youngin’ days in New York, the country music of the South had a taxing time crossing our northern border. Not many kids who we grew up with in New York would say Brad Paisley is his or her favorite musician; Jay Z and many other urban artists came up more frequently. As our musical souls developed, we learned country music has an array of subgenres that incorporates less of the Nashville sound and more of the New York sound. Now, we can boldly say that soft country rock has made our “things we like” list. The genre has that southern feel, but we imagine the singers to wear  [ Read More ]

As we are gearing up for the Rockstar Mayhem Festival, we have been checking out the bands from the festival’s line up. An underlining element amongst these heavy metal bands is the impeccable guitar rifts displayed in the tracks. In the past, our ears often headed straight to the vocalist then eventually reaching the guitarists. As our musical knowledge expands, so does our appreciation for all the members of a group. We are ashamed of our musical ignorance back in the day, so we are making up for plenty of lost time and getting to know those iconic instrumentalists we used to look over. There is no better way to  [ Read More ]

Pop punks All Time Low formed eight years ago while still in high school, getting their start covering pop punk acts such as Blink-182.  Emerald Moon Records signed the band in 2004 leading them to release their first EP “The Three Words to Remember in Dealing with the End” later that year. Their first studio album, “The Party Scene” released July 2005 kept the band occupied until graduation 2006, where they signed a record deal with Hopeless Records, causing a spree of several more releases, which lead them to move on with Interscope Records and release their fourth LP “Dirty Work”. Having worked with producers John Fields Matt Squire and  [ Read More ]

The power of a concert film has both stimulating visual and audio effects. Compared to hearing music, the sense of sight is often neglected or overlooked when evaluating the talent of an artist. If you want to understand an artist to the fullest extent, you must see all his or her musical realms, both onstage and offstage. These sections include not only the heard voice of the music, but also the silent voices that contribute to the theatrical live presentation of the artist, such as the dancers and choreographers. An audio CD alone cannot provide these subdued voices, so we turn our attention to the sounds exuded by concert films.  [ Read More ]

In the late 90s Massachusetts’s Unearth would see the light. “Darkness In The Light”, is their fifth full-length, the quintet have delivered their most honest, powerful, and compelling statement to date, driving a fist into the collective gut of every image-obsessed wannabe metal band currently cluttering up the landscape, and setting a new standard when it comes to marrying precision brute force and exhilarating melody. Whilst this took three years to make, the band’s previous release saw them working at their very hardest creating a legion of followers that they can rely on no matter what. Looking back at their much earlier works 2006′s III: In the Eyes Of Fire”  [ Read More ]

Album Review: Discover Your Soul With Ida Maria

Music and soul used to go hand and hand before auto-tune got in the way. We have no problem with this musical trend only if the artist’s true emotions are still conveyed through a track. There may be a few kicks here and there in the sound, but the soul of the artist can still be felt. We can name handfuls of artists who took this auto-tune process too far, which caused them to strip themselves of their raw talent and/or establish a phony image they cannot uphold. Both are losses no matter how you look at it. So, to find an artist that has got both goods, an impeccable  [ Read More ]

As beginning music fans, we were drawn to young teen music, such as groups like the Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls and Britney Spears. Many years later, with our music knowledge building up on these foundations, we realize our musical tastes have broadened for the better. We can call ourselves fans of rock, pop, jazz, classical, blues, country and recently heavy metal. Metal music took the longest to diffuse through our not so porous music boundaries. Yes, we have mentioned many genres we liked, but that doesn’t mean each of them got through without thorough contemplation. We must admit that we didn’t always understand heavy metal music; we just didn’t see  [ Read More ]

Rock music is a genre we are usually partial to due to the diversity a band can take within the category. Hard rock music and soft rock music are not only distinct through the use of their adjectives, but also through the substantial difference in the sound they convey. As we are bias to rock music, we are further predisposed to soft rock music. This thought is entirely our own opinion, so don’t feel obliged to agree with our words, just take them into consideration. A band who sticks to tunes mostly of soft rock music has a taxing job. How do you make rock music smoother without losing the  [ Read More ]

The Undying Musical Spark of A Million Pieces

We have some new music for you that has a pinch of alternative punk flare, a tablespoon of rock and roll and Broadway-esque vocals and a sprinkle of an offbeat tempo. Doesn’t that just sound delicious? The tunes of A Million Pieces can settle those summer hunger pains and leave you yearning for more. The band’s debut self-titled EP dropped on April 26th via Scallywag Records. Produced by Jerrod “Skins” Bettis, the original drummer of OneRepublic, the six track EP is simply not enough. A Million Pieces has that spunk we heard initially from the alternative solo-project, The Rocket Summer. Both bands do incorporate different musical styles, but the intensity  [ Read More ]

Album Review: Eowyn Unleashes Her Beautiful Ashes

Posted by nperez On May - 19 - 2011 0 Comment

In her previous release “Silent Screams” (2008) Eowyn was focused on encouraging those who were ensnared by depression, anger, loneliness, and insecurities that needed to cry out for help from Jesus Christ or family and friends. Eowyn’s heart poured upon this album often at times having her at the verge of tears. She explains that “It breaks my heart to see people hurting. I can’t help but cry, because I understand what they’re going through, and I truly known how they can be whole again.” Now that three years have gone by she looks to “Beautiful Ashes” her follow-up release as her redemption to spirituality and restoring those dreams that  [ Read More ]

When did this Vampire craze start, anyway? That is the question that has yet to be answered. Perhaps because the whole craze hadn’t even begun until Stephenie Meyer’s beloved Twilight series hit the big screens during the brink of 2009 or maybe it was Charlaine Harris’ True Blood or even The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith, either way this so-called craze has even bitten the music scene. While there has been bands before them, Aiden, Calabrese, I Am Ghost, and The 69 Eyes, all of which claim to be immortal, these bands do not compare as to what lays in Los Angele’s very own backyard. For 2010 brought forth an  [ Read More ]

A sense of rebelliousness and devilishness runs throughout us when we hear the tunes of Dynasty Electric. The lingering and unreserved vocals of Jenny Electrik and the impulsive rhythm of the instruments supplied by Seth Misterka create a vindictive sound that resonates within the rule free and irrational part of our brain. There is nothing wrong with having that daring attitude, just as long as it doesn’t triumph over or even blend with the logical side. Separation is the key, but we have to warn you the tunes of Dynasty Electric are so infectious that severance might require more than brainpower. Hailing from Brooklyn, Dynasty Electric has that spunk with  [ Read More ]

When we were in high school, Hellogoodbye’s “Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs! and More!” was our obsession primarily due to the group’s innovative pop-synthetic sound. In 2006, electronic music wasn’t at its prime like it is now, so we like to say Hellogoodbye was a band ahead of its time. As the years passed, the genre withered away its other components on the radio waves and music festivals across the world, which further proved electronic and synthetic sounds are not a sub genre to any other category, but in a realm of its own. There is no time like the present for a band, which produces pop tracks intertwined with quirkily  [ Read More ]

Laura Vall sounds like a "Little Star"

Posted by smurphy On May - 8 - 2011 0 Comment

Sometimes a good thing just comes out of nowhere, a good thing like Laura Vall. Here’s a known fact; Laura Vall is a indie pop singer from Barcelona, Spain who’s lyrical voice can blow down walls. Her songs are rich with powerful lyrics and musical serenity. As a singer/songwriter for more than 10 years, she has been flying under the radar paying her dues.  It is very possible you have heard the whispers of her voice on a track or two, maybe even on a  jingle. But then, that’s the life of a backup vocalist/session singer… always heard, but never seen. Not for lack of talent, “believe in trust”! This young lady has plenty of that. I mean,  [ Read More ]
