Adam Lambert Arrested After Fight With Boyfriend in Finland

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

Adam Lambert spent several hours in a Finnish jail after being arrested for fighting with his boyfriend Sauli Koskinen outside a Helsinki gay bar, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Petri Juvonen, who is in charge of the police investigation, said the former ‘American Idol’ runner-up and the winner of the 2007 Finnish version of ‘Big Brother’ were arrested on charges of assault around 4 am on December 22, outside DTM (Don’t Tell Mama). Both Lambert and Koskinen were brought in for question as police look into four possible assaults. The dispute that led to their arrests started in one of DTM’s back rooms, and the two were kicked out as…

Mr. Poppers Penguins

DVD Review: Mr. Popper's Penguins, Great Directors, The Perfect Gift, The Art of Getting By and Alleged

Monday, December 12th, 2011

Movies like “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” aren’t necessarily made for critics, who are frequently presumed to have it in for live-action family films, with their primary colors and jokey, obvious set-ups for the lowest common denominator. And director Mark Waters’ film, starring Jim Carrey as a realtor who inherits a half dozen penguins and finds his swank New York penthouse apartment turned into a raucous, chilly wonderland, is certainly not a subtle thing. But it is sweet, and has a heart, and it also benefits in comparison to many movies of its ilk by the use of actual real, live animals rather than talking critters or overly slick CGI creations. Based on the…

Scotty McCreery

Scotty McCreery's Voice Unaffected By Helium

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

“American Idol” winner Scotty McCreery is known for his ridiculously-deep voice, but now he’ll also be known as having the Superman-like ability to reflect the affects of helium. AOL’s The Boot reported on McCreery’s interview with Ellen DeGeneres on her daytime talk show, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” After asking McCreery about his life post-Idol–which includes being in school, going to football games, the effects of puberty on his voice and his debut album, “Clear As Day,” coming in at number one on his birthday–DeGeneres got a helium balloon to see how McCreery’s voice sounds when it’s at a normal teenage level. The result: not much change, which was astounding to…

Lee DeWyze Dropped By RCA Records

Sunday, October 9th, 2011

“American Idol” Season Nine winner Lee DeWyze might not be having a “Beautiful Day” now that he’s been dropped by RCA Records, according to both Popdust and The Hollywood Reporter. DeWyze hasn’t been much of a money-maker ala Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia and Season 10 winner Scotty McCreery; according to Popdust, DeWyze’s debut album, “Live It Up,” which was released November 2010, sold only 168,000 copies, whereas McCreery’s debut album, “Clear As Day,” is expected to sell 175,000 copies in its first week alone, already selling more than DeWyze’s debut album. According to RCA CEO Peter Edge, successful “American Idol” winners have to have the right songs to stay on top….

X Factor Has Nothing On Lee DeWyze

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

Even though, he passed his crown over to Scotty McCreery this past year, American Idol season 9 winner Lee DeWyze has still got it. Just listen to his brand new single, “Never There” and feel the DeWyze spark all over again. The track, which just dropped via WuLi Records, takes a more somber route, but allows DeWyze’s vulnerability to be exposed with help from his raw and grungy vocals. The single’s instrumentals are so on key with the emotions expressed vocally that the track explodes with passion. Once fans purchase “Never There” on iTunes, they can send their iTunes invoice to lee4free@lewwdewyze.com and get a free track featuring Lee DeWyze…

Melissa Etheridge Discusses Why Gay Contestants Have Better Chances On The Voice Than American Idol

Saturday, September 17th, 2011

Remember when Adam Levine unleashed some comments about “American Idol”‘s perceived “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy when it comes to their contestants? Well, The Hollywood Reporter asked singer Melissa Etheridge about the comments, and she said she can see why gay contestants on “The Voice” might have better chances than on “American Idol.” “That’s what ‘The Voice’ is about,” she said. “You hear the voice first before you make the judgment. I love that with the Beverly [McClellan] girl…a bald, pierced tattoo, kilt-wearing dyke. And shes got this great voice, and you hear the voice first and then your eyes make the judgment.” She also said she talked to McClellan…

Adam Levine Expresses Anger Over MTV VMA's

Sunday, August 28th, 2011

Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine won’t be attending the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA’s) in Los Angeles tonight, as he disapproves of the network’s new format, The Huffington Post is reporting. The judge of the hit NBC reality singing competition ‘The Voice’ took to his Twitter account yesterday and tweeted “f*ck you VMA’s.” Levine further showed his dissatisfaction with MTV, which he thinks strayed from its original mission, by tweeting “the VMA’s. One day a year when MTV pretends to still care about music. I’m drawing a line in the sand.” The singer later said he didn’t regret the statement. “Still waiting to have my ‘Jerry MaGuire mission statement moment…

Friday, August 19th, 2011

Our friends at TVLine have posted an article on the shows that are up for Emmys this year. Writer Michael Slezak has given the rundown on the top contenders for the coveted TV award. The front-runner is the perennial favorite “The Amazing Race,” which has won for seven years in a row. Bravo’s “Top Chef” won the Emmy last year, but there are several others that have yet to do what “Top Chef” has done, which is beat the amazing “Amazing Race” in the awards race. FOX’s reality show “American Idol” have been nominated for nine years without winning an award, thereby becoming the Susan Lucci of reality shows. FOX…

Adam Levine Vs. Nigel Lythgoe: Are Gay Contestants Asked To Hide Sexuality?

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

There’s been a huge debate going on between singer/”The Voice” judge Adam Levine and “American Idol” producer Nigel Lythgoe about gay contestants on their respective shows, and thanks to Entertainment Weekly, the battle has been easy to keep up with. Tuesday, Levine said in an interview with OUT Magazine that he believes “American Idol” makes their gay contestants hide who they really are. He said: “What’s always pissed me off about ‘Idol’ is wanting to maks that, for that to go unspoken…C’mon. You can’t be publicly gay? At this point? On a singing competition? Give me a break. You can’t hide basic components of these people’s lives. The fact that…
