Fright Night

DVD Review: Fright Night, Catch .44, Carjacker and Maniac Cop

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

A pumped-up remake of the same-named 1984 vampire horror-comedy, “Fright Night” represents a well oiled machine of goosed senses that unfortunately has no clearly defined motivating purposes, even within genre confines of its own story. Fun and engaging performances carry the movie a great distance, but it eventually bogs down courtesy of loosely defined stakes (no pun intended) and poorly incentivized action. The story centers on Las Vegas high school senior Charley Brewster (Anton Yelchin), who lives with his single mom real estate agent, Jane (Toni Collette), and has successfully pivoted away from his geeky past enough to bag a popular girlfriend, Amy (Imogen Poots). Things get turned upside down…

DVD Review: Catch .44

Monday, December 19th, 2011

Title: Catch .44 Directed by: Aaron Harvey Starring: Malin Akerman, Nikki Reed, Deborah Ann Woll, Brad Dourif, Forest Whitaker and Bruce Willis Running time: 94 minutes, Rated R, Available on Blu-ray Tess (Malin Akerman) and her two friends Kara (Nikki Reed) and Dawn (Deborah Ann Woll) are given a task to intercept a drug shipment for crime boss Mel (Bruce Willis), but the job turns out it’s not as simple as anticipated. This film is fast paced, but confusing as hell. Director Aaron Harvey (who provides the commentary as the only special feature on the disc) does an homage to non-linear storytelling much compared to Tarantino films, and the film…

Chatting About 'Happythankyoumoreplease' With Josh Radnor And Malin Akerman

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

Original stories found in mainstream Hollywood nowadays are few and far between. In the industry’s smoggy climate where the familiar is rehashed in the form of remake and sequels, it’s refreshing to have an independent film like Josh Radnor’s “Happythankyoumoreplease” make it’s way to theaters. Now don’t let the title or the ridiculously happy-go-lucky trailer deceive you, there’s a lot more bubbling under the surface of this film. All of us know Josh Radnor best for playing the lead role of Ted in the hit television series “How I Met Your Mother,” but the actor makes his directorial debut with “Happy.” If you want to put it in a nutshell,…

More Plot Information Is Revealed For 'Inferno'

Monday, February 28th, 2011

The biopic “Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story” has been in and out of pre-production for awhile, mainly having to do with the casting choice of a wayward young actress. Those troubles quickly disappeared the minute they chose Malin Akerman to play the adult film star turned anti-porn advocate in the Matthew Wilder feature. In the middle of an interview for her upcoming film “Happythankyoumoreplease,” the actress was kind enough to give us a better look on the overall story line for the project. “I’m very excited to start filming ["Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story"]. As of right now we’re supposed to be shooting in April. “The movie is sort of…

Well, while there’s certainly trouble to be had in writer-director Sebastian Gutierrez’s Elektra Luxx, just like its predecessor, Women in Trouble, there’s something keeping you from completely dismissing this sloppy mess of a film – the characters. First off, we’ve got our titular character (no pun intended), Elektra Luxx (Carla Gugino). She’s pregnant and retired from the porn industry, instead, opting to teach a…

Lois Lane May Not Appear in Superman Reboot After All

Sunday, February 6th, 2011

While speculation over who will be cast as Lois Lane in director Zack Snyder’s upcoming ‘Superman’ reboot still continues, Warner Bros. is looking at actresses for a tentative lead role that isn’t the superhero’s love interest, Reelzchannel.com is reporting. While Rachel McAdams, Olivia Wilde and Malin Akerman were previously being considered for the reporter, the studio is now looking at such actresses as Diane Kruger, Alice Eve and Rosamund Pike for the new, unidentified role. It’s rumored that Eve is being considered for the new role because she has expressed interest in the comic book genre before. She was up for the role of Peggy Carter in ‘Captain America: The…

Malin Akerman Replaces Lindsay Lohan in Inferno

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

‘Couples Retreat’ actress Malin Akerman has replaced Lindsay Lohan in the upcoming Linda Lovelace biopic ‘Inferno’. The casting comes after the recent news that the film’s producers had fired the ‘Mean Girls’ actress. They cited her current stay at the Betty Ford Center as a liability, further saying she is “uninsurable.” While Akerman is eight years older than Lohan, the movie is still expected to follow Lovelace’s autobiography, Ordeal: An Autobiography, and cover a long period of her life. To cover up the age difference, it has also been reported that the movie’s cosmetic department will just use extra make-up to make Akerman look younger when needed. Akerman is believed…
