Saturday, December 24th, 2011

We here at ShockYa are giving your our top 10 movies of 2011, so I shall keep the series going with my top 10. Not only is it expertly made, but it’s the only silent film…

In Your Opinion: Hugo

Monday, November 28th, 2011

“Hugo,” directed by Martin Scorsese, has been touted as being the 3D film to bring prestige to the technology. It would seem that it’s doing just that. The film has been given a 97% fresh rating by critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and audiences have given the film a still successful 87%. According to the site, the critics’ overall viewpoint is that “Hugo is an extravagant, elegant fantasy with an innocence lacking in many modern kids’ moves, and one that emanates an unabashed love for the magic of cinema.” Individually, most of the reviewers had glowing reviews. “One of the most magical viewing experiences of the decade so far,” said Richard…

Every year my family sits around the Thanksgiving table and tells each other what we’re thankful for, which winds up being the same thing four times over – family. Sure, that’s very much true and will remain so my entire life, but as the movie industry is such an essential part of my life, there’s no denying that the business’ highlights genuinely have an impact on my year. Interview: Hugo's Asa Butterfield, Ben Kingsley, Chloe Moretz And More

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

What better way to spend the most magical time of year than by seeing a particularly magical and inspiring movie? Title: Hugo Directed By: Martin Scorsese Starring: Asa Butterfield, Chloe Moretz, Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Helen McCrory, Ray Winstone, Emily Mortimer, Christopher Lee, Michael Stuhlbarg, Frances de la Tour, Richard Griffiths, Jude Law Part of the beauty of filmmaking, is the ability to transport viewers to another reality. Back in the late 1800s and early 1900s, filmmaker Georges Méliès seized the opportunity to put stop tricks and painted film cells to use, combining his skills as a magician and filmmaker to, quite literally, bring dreams to life. Ultimately, we’re still doing the very same thing today, but with the wildly advanced technology and more thorough understanding of storytelling, director…
