In Your Opinion: J. Edgar

Monday, November 14th, 2011

J. Edgar, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is obviously Oscar bait. But is it good? According to Rotten Tomatoes, the critics are slightly indifferent to the film even though DiCaprio gives it his all. The critics gave the film an overall score of 41%, and the audience was much kinder, giving it a 67%. The consensus of the critics, according to Rotten Tomatoes, “Leonardo DiCaprio gives a predictably powerhouse performance, but ‘J.Edgar’ stumbles in all other departments with cheesy makeup, poor lighting, confusing narrative, and humdrum storytelling.” When I saw the first trailer, I actually didn’t think the makeup was all that bad, but the more I…

J. Edgar Movie Review

Saturday, November 12th, 2011

Title: J. Edgar Director: Clint Eastwood Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Armie Hammer (‘The Social Network’), Naomi Watts and Judi Dench Preserving your place in history and protecting your reputation while maintaining your privacy is important to many people, particularly those in the government and the public spotlight. But the rise of fame and struggle to hold onto power often leads people to question the intentions of those around them. Such is the case with the FBI’s first director, J. Edgar Hoover, as seen in the new biographical drama ‘J. Edgar,’ directed by Clint Eastwood. While only a select few understand the struggles of being the director of the FBI, many viewers…

Dream House Movie Review

Friday, September 30th, 2011

Title: Dream House Directed By: Jim Sheridan Starring: Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts, Rachel Weisz, Elias Koteas, Marton Csokas, Taylor Geare, Claire Geare, Rachel Fox Movies like Dream House are simply amazing in the worst ways possible. With the slew of films that go into development to never see the green light, how does a script like this slip through rounds and rounds of coverage and scrutiny? Then, how does an irrational story like this attract such top-notch talent like Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts and Rachel Weisz? Worst of all, who thought it’d be worth it to release Dream House in theaters rather than just attempt to tuck it away on…

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

Liev Schreiber, Naomi Watts and Christina Hendricks have all been cast in the upcoming boxing biopic ‘The Bleeder,’ Collider is reporting. The drama will tell the story of New Jersey heavyweight boxer Chuck Wepner, who fought Muhammad Ali for 15 rounds. He also inspired Sylvester Stallone to pen ‘Rocky.’ Schreiber will reportedly play Wepner, as the actor expressed interest in doing so earlier this year. There aren’t any confirmed reports on who Watts and Hendricks will play, but they are reportedly up for the role of Wepner’s wife Linda. The boxer was married three times and said he has dated “millions of women,” so whichever actress isn’t playing his wife…

Naomi Watts cast in J. Edgar

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

Naomi Watts’ rep confirms that the actress has been cast in “J. Edgar”, according to Entertainment Weekly. Watts’ character is supposed to be playing Hoover’s secretary, Helen Gandy. Gandy, according to Deadline, was called by Hoover as indispensable and kept many of Hoover’s secrets. She also took it upon herself to keep Hoover’s public persona in tact after his death. Originally, according to Deadline, Watts was the forerunner to play Gandy, but the studio behind the film kept looking for other actresses because of the fear that Watts’ schedule wouldn’t fit. Charlize Theron was expected to take the role, but she went on to play the Evil Queen in “Snow…

You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger Poster

You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger's Poster Is Beautiful In Its Simplicity

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Just as Woody Allen’s You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger makes its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, its poster hits the web. This one is as simple as they come seemingly needing only a typewriter and Sharpie marker to create. The artwork clearly won’t grab anyone’s attention, but in a marketing world packed with floating heads, garish fonts and Photoshopped faces, the image’s simplicity is appreciated. The film focuses on a pair of married couples, Alfie and Helena (Anthony Hopkins and Gemma Jones) and Sally and Roy (Naomi Watts and Josh Brolin). Alfie leaves Helena in exchange for an opportunity to find the youth that passed him by…

When a polite young man makes a surprise call and asks to borrow some eggs, his clumsiness leads to the appearance of his equally charming…
