Our Idiot Brother

DVD Review: Our Idiot Brother

Monday, December 19th, 2011

Title: Our Idiot Brother Directed by: Jesse Peretz Starring: Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Adam Scott, Emily Mortimer, Rashida Jones and Zooey Deschanel Running time: 90 minutes, Rated R, Available on Blu-ray Ned (Paul Rudd)  is just a happy go lucky guy who is extremely naive and honest to a fault, so much that he unintentionally disrupts the lives of his three self-absorbed sisters.  There’s Miranda (Elizabeth Banks) the career-oriented journalist, Liz (Emily Mortimer) the overprotective earthy mother of a sheltered son who is married  to a slimy British documentarian (Steve Coogan), and Natalie (Zooey Deschanel) an artistic, yet career directionally challenged bisexual. There is no question that Paul Rudd was…

Nick Broomfield

Exclusive: Nick Broomfield Talks Sarah Palin, Trashes Wasilla

Friday, October 7th, 2011

In his new documentary “Sarah Palin: You Betcha!,” director Nick Broomfield indulges in some of his characteristically bumbling, nice-guy provocation, learning more about Palin’s background and hometown while engaging in what seemingly becomes an increasingly futile attempt to secure an interview with her. Fortunately for ShockYa, the British-born filmmaker isn’t as difficult to pin down as his most recent subject. We had a chance to speak to Broomfield one-on-one recently, and although the conversation occurred just days before Palin officially announced that she is not seeking the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, the light that he sheds on her upbringing and early political career via the nearly three months he spent in Wasilla, Alaska, during his…

Our Idiot Brother Movie Review

Our Idiot Brother Review Title: Our Idiot Brother Director: Jesse Peretz Starring: Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Emily Mortimer, Steve Coogan, Hugh Dancy, Kathryn Hahn, Rashida Jones, Shirley Knight, TJ Miller, Adam Scott, Janet Montgomery, Sterling K Brown, Matthew Mindler Yes, there’s the saying, “nice guys finish last,” and that’s certainly the case for Our Idiot Brother‘s Ned (Paul Rudd) quite often, but when you’re considering movies, nice movies can get a bit of a boost even when they don’t entirely deserve it. Our Idiot Brother is undoubtedly flawed, but director Jesse Peretz turns up the charm with ease, bringing the best out of his talented cast and some impressively honest,…

The Trip Movie Review

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

Title: The Trip Directed By: Michael Winterbottom Starring: Steve Coogan, Rob Brydon, Claire Keelan, Margo Stilley, Rebecca Johnson, Dolya Gavanski, Kerry Shale Have you ever sat down for a movie with one of those massive tubs of popcorn? You toss the first piece back and the buttery morsel is heavenly, but then, when you get about half way down, maybe even less, you’re incredibly parched, sick of the taste and have no desire to go any further. Well, that’s kind of the way The Trip makes you feel. There certainly can be too much of a good thing. When his girlfriend opts out and he can’t manage to find another…

The Other Guys Poster

The Other Guys Movie Review

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

Title: The Other Guys Directed By: Adam McKay Starring: Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Michael Keaton, Eva Mendes, Samuel L. Jackson, Dwayne Johnson, Steve Coogan Not only do buddy cop comedies come with a major stigma, but so do both of the stars of The Other Guys, Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. The guys are guilty of doing the same thing in just about every film, Ferrell in terms of his comedic style and Wahlberg, well, with acting in general. The Other Guys primarily stays within the subgenre mold and Ferrell and Wahlberg remain in their comfort zones, but the film has just enough freshness to it that it makes more…
