Smokewood Entertainment’s upcoming movie ‘Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer’ will be marketed and distributed in the U.S. by Relativity Media, the studio has confirmed via a press release. Australian actress Jordana Beatty will portray the title character, Judy Moody, and the film will be helmed by ‘Aliens in the Attic’ director John Schultz.

‘Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer,’ which was penned by screenwriter Kathy Waugh and author Megan McDonald, follows Judy as she’s determined to have the most exciting summer of her life. Her younger brother Stink, played by Parris Moseller, and their Aunt Opal, portrayed by Heather Graham, will follow along in her adventures. The movie is based on characters from McDonald’s children book series of the same name, which is consisted of nine novels. She has also written a novel based on the film’s script.

Academy Award-nominated producers Sarah Siegel-Magness and Gary Magness from Smokewood are attached to produce ‘Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer.’ Of the project, Siegel-Magness said “We are excited to partner with…Relativity to bring this beloved character to the big screen.” Bobbi Sue Luther and Andrew Sugerman are also attached to executive produce the movie, which is set for a summer 2011 release.
