According to MTV News via Heat Vision, “Toy Story 3” screenwriter Michael Arndt is slated to write the script for Disney’s live-action update on “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves” called “Snow and the Seven.” The twist for this version of the Grimm brothers’ tale is that the setting won’t be a German forest–instead, our characters will hail from 19th century China.

According to the sites, an Englishwoman returns to her home in Hong Kong upon news of her father’s death, only to learn that her stepmother is plotting against her. The young woman leaves her home for mainland China, where she comes upon a band of “seven international warriors.” (An author’s note: Let’s hope that for the sake of minorities and impressionable people everywhere, this movie doesn’t reiterate the idea that all Chinese people automatically know how to do Kung Fu and/or that all ethnic people are essentially barbaric fighters.)

Francis Lawrence has been in talks to direct the film, and Natalie Portman has also been rumored to be playing the lead. Heat Vision made a note that Portman’s pregnancy could cause her to bow out of the film, although, seeing as how quickly most actresses bounce back after having kids, it’s very possible Portman could stay on the film.
