In “Why more reboots?!” news, CinemaBlend is reporting that the Batman franchise will be rebooted after the release of the third Christopher Nolan-verse Batman film, “The Dark Knight Rises”.

According to the Warner Brothers executive Jeff Robinov in an interview with the L.A. Times, “We have the third Batman, but then we’ll have to reinvent Batman… Chris Nolan and [wife and producing partner] Emma Thomas will be producing it, so it will be a conversation with them about what the next phase is.”

As a longtime Batman fan, I’ve been thrilled with the Nolan-verse Batman films (yes, I’m one of those people who figuratively bows down to Heath Ledger’s Joker). Because I’m such a fan, I’d love for the films to just end after the third one and for Warner Brothers to wait a few years until they jump back into Batman-lore. But to reboot the entire thing right after “Dark Knight Rises”?! Come on, WB! Give me (and other fans) a second to breathe!

Reboots and remakes have been en vogue with studios for years now, but this feels like overkill. Could they just leave Batman alone and move onto Robin or other DC characters like The Green Arrow or The Flash or, my favorite, The Martian Manhunter? Just leave Batman alone for right now.

What do you think about this news? Does it rankle your feathers?

  1. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Wtf?! Leave it alone after this trilogy. I'll always love the original Tim Burton batman movie (and the Adam West/Burt Ward one for that matter), but this has been the best batman series yet and the Joker was absolutely amazing. I was bummed to see Bane as a villian in the next one but I'm sure Nolan will do it right. But another reboot?! Come on…

  2. Don’t do a reboot. If anything continue from what Nolan started. After all these Batman movies by Nolan have been Batman’s baby steps into becoming the actual legend. The first movie showed how he decided to become Gotham’s protector, the second one showed how Batman is caught in big struggles and I personally hope this third movie has Bruce Wayne to resolve that he will be Batman forever.

So then I say go after these third movies and help Batman go through his many adventures. After all no other motion picture of Batman showed what Nolan did. Basically every other motion picture of Batman would have Batman talk about his parents death that got him to become Batman and in every motion picture, except Nolan’s established Batman in his Prime state.

  3. I can't wait for another take on the Batman, but I would really like the uppertunity to miss it for some time, like 5 years before we hear that they are thinking of rebooting it…. but if the Nolans gonna produce it, I guess it could be worse.

  4. Reboot AGAIN? This is getting ridiculous. “New is always better! Let’s reboot the reboot! It has already been half an hour!” It’s an insult to the moviegoers. As if we wouldn’t understand that they “reboot” a perfectly good, working series of Batman movies only to get more publicity. Well guess what, movie fans aren’t THAT stupid. When you make it impossible for a guy to suggest to his friends that they go see this next movie without them thinking he’s an idiot getting suckered in by a greedy Hollywood company, then you’re setting yourself up for failure.

  7. The fact that this’ll be the last Nolan Batman movie alone pisses me off. He could easily do one or two more after this, like with The Penguin or another villain or two. He could do SO MUCH MORE with what he’s brought us it’s sad that he’s just giving up by only giving us a trilogy.
That being said, it’s even worse that they’re restarting this all over again after only a few years of this historic reboot. How could they POSSIBLY even hope to improve on what Nolan has given us? According to Wikipedia, it’ll be Darren Aronofsky who will take up the Batman series but there’s no way he could do any better than Nolan.
They probably are doing this as an imitation of the reboot of Spider-Man, but that was out of laziness. Batman, and Christopher Nolan, is better than that. NO REBOOT!! FUCK HOLLYWOOD AND THEIR LAZINESS!
