After reports began circulating that famed actor-director Robert Redford has signed for a role in the upcoming ‘Captain America’ sequel, ‘The Winter Soldier,’ few details on what role he would play were made available. The founder of the Sundance Institute didn’t initially publicly comment on the rumors of his casting. But the Academy Award-winning filmmaker confirmed his role as a senior S.H.I.E.L.D. agent yesterday during a New York roundtable Shockya participated in for his new thriller, ‘The Company You Keep.’

Redford stated that his character is more than just another agent in the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. He also explained why he took on a role in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ which is set to hit theaters on April 4, 2014, and will feature returning stars Chris Evans and Samuel L. Jackson. The actor also explained that the action sci-fi sequel, which is being directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, is so different from his previous work.

Of his casting in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ Redford said:

“(I’ll be playing) the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. in ‘Captain America.’ It’s very simple; I wanted to do something different, and that felt like a good thing to do. That’s it, there’s nothing more to it than that. It’s bold, in terms of expectations.”

Watch for Shockya’s full interview with Redford for ‘The Company You Keep,’ which he directed and stared in, later this week, to coincide with its theatrical release on Friday.
