Amanda Brumfield, the estranged daughter of Billy Bob Thornton, was sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of aggravated manslaughter of her one-year-old goddaughter, Reuters is reporting. The 32-year-old Brumfield was babysitting the girl, Olivia Madison Garcia, who died in her care in October 2008 in central Florida.

Since her arrest, Brumfield has maintained that Garcia hit her head after falling as she tried to climb out of her crib. Brumfield was initially charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse, but was later found not guilty. However, prosecutors argued the toddler’s skull fracture and brain bleeding weren’t an accident.

Garcia’s mother, Heather Murphy, has said the sentence was longer than she expected, but it meant little to her. “None of it satisfies me. It doesn’t matter…I won’t ever see Olivia again,” she said.

The verdict came after Brumfield broke down at her sentencing, saying she misses her goddaughter just as much as anyone else. Her best friend, Christina Stewart, read a letter from Brumfield at the sentencing. It said Garcia “brought joy to our family from the moment she was born. Olivia always was, is and will be my little girl.”

When reached for comment about the case after his daughter’s arrest, Thorton’s publicist, Arnold Robinson, said he was estranged from Brumfield. Robinson added that his client “has had no contact with her for quite some time.”
