Tyler Perry is providing emotional support to Whitney Houston’s 19-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, Celebuzz is reporting. Maxine Gordon, the grandmother of Brown’s fiance, Nick Gordon, has said the ‘Alex Cross’ star has been looking after the late singer’s daughter since her death in February.
Gordon added that the filmmaker “promised Whitney he’d watch out for her (Brown) and take care of her. I think he is a fatherly mentor for her, and he loves her.”
Brown even recently starred on Perry’s sitcom ‘For Better or Worse,’ and will participate in the much-hyped Lifetime reality show focused on her family, ‘The Houstons: On Our Own.’ Perry is not expected to appear on the reality show, however.
Gordon said she and Brown’s grandmother, Cissy, were also asked to appear on ‘The Houstons: On Our Own,’ but they both refused. “I wish they wouldn’t do it [either]. It only creates problems,” Gordon added.
Despite her concerns about the reality show, Gordon does approve of her grandson marrying Brown. “We are supportive and we’re not going to abandon them,” she said.
But Gordon believes the two should wait a few years to marry. “They are too young to get married. He’s 23 and is a man, but he’s still young and her too. Bobbi Kristina needs to go to school. I know Nick is trying to encourage her, but she has her own mind,” Gordon said.
