The “Oldboy” news seems to be coming fast now that the news of Spike Lee directing has been released. Now, according to CinemaBlend via Twitch Film, Josh Brolin has been the first name rumored to be attached to the project. According to the article, Mandate Films list of potential leads has Brolin right at the tippy-top. He’s a great actor, so I’m sure he could do what is required of him and then some. Mandate Pictures has made it official that Spike Lee will direct their next picture, “Oldboy.” “Oldboy” will be a remake of the highly-regarded South Korean action/thriller film. The script will be adapted by Mark Protosevich as well as co-produced by Protosevich. Roy Lee and Doug Davison, who have worked on another American remake of an Asian film, “The Grudge,” will produce the film. The executive producer of the film will be Mandate President Nathan Kahane. “It’s a great honor to put this special project into the hands of such a gifted writer and iconic director,” said Kahane. Spielberg And Smith Moving Forward With Oldboy

Despite numerous legal difficulties surrounding the rights to the property, Steven Spielberg and Will Smith are “moving forward”, according to IGN, with plans to remake “Oldboy”, by Chan-wook Park. The film has been in considerable legal limbo since release. Futabasha, the Japanese publishing company that released the original “Oldboy” manga, is suing the Korean film production company Show East, the makers of the cult hit live-action film, over the remake rights. However, Reuters reports that Show East has shut down and Kim Dong-Ju, the company’s CEO, has disappeared. The company Big Egg, who helped to co-produce the film, has also ceased operation and its ex-staff members are listed as unreachable….
