The human race has survived what James Cameron called Judgment Day in his 1991 critical and box office hit ‘Terminator 2.’ In the science fiction film, the director proclaimed that once Skynet became self aware, a war between man and machine would begin on April 19, 2011 at 8:11 pm.
To commemorate the day, Cameron told tmz.com that “Kyle Reese said in the first film that it was only ‘one possible future.’ Clearly, not the one we’re in. Maybe Kyle, Sarah, John and the T-800 changed things enough to steer us away from that possible future.”
‘Terminator 2,’ which took place in 1995, follows the new Terminator, the T-1000, who was played by Robert Patrick, who was sent back in time to kill John. The T-800 Terminator, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, is sent back by the future John to protect his younger self. At the end of the film, the Terminator sacrifices himself so that his technology can’t create Skynet.
Cameron also told TMZ that instead of nuclear war and the machines taking over, we now need to worry about global climate change. He added that different machines, people’s cell phones and Blackberries, are now taking over the human race, and “you could even argue the machines have already won.”
