Alec Baldwin is allegedly considering running for New York City May in 2013 on the Democratic ticket, E!Online is reporting. The news comes as the once-promising contender, U.S. Rep Anthony Weiner, has undergone public scrutiny after his twitpic posting scandal.
The ’30 Rock’ actor’s rep, Matthew Hiltzik, told the Hollywood Reporter that he wouldn’t rule out a potential run. Baldwin’s hit comedy series, ’30 Rock,’ is expected to have finished its fun by 2013, giving the actor the time to campaign. Baldwin told former New York governor-turned-CNN host Eliot Spitzer in January 2011 that “I do believe that people want to believe that someone who deeply cares about the middle class…would like to seek public office.”
The actor also wrote an article for the Huffington Post on June 9, 2011, saying “My thought on Weiner is that he is a very busy man. Like most, although not all, politicians, he probably spends a great deal of time going to meetings, raising campaign funds and seizing upon every opportunity to remind people of how great he is as a public servant and a human being.” Baldwin added that Weiner is under constant public appraisal, and needs something to take off the edge.
The two-time Emmy winner also wrote that “Weiner is a modern human being. So he ensnared himself in things that modern humans do…now, I’m sad for him, his family, his district and his colleagues.”
