Actor Daniel von Bargen, who’s most well-known for playing Mr. Kruger on ‘Seinfeld,’ was hospitalized following a failed suicide attempt, TMZ is reporting. The Ohio resident shot himself in the temple with a Col 38 on February 20, 2012, and called Hamilton County 911 after the attempt failed.

During the 911 call, which TMZ has posted, von Bargen told the dispatcher that he shot himself to avoid going to the hospital, and the shooting wasn’t accidental. The actor, who is a diabetic, was scheduled to have two of his toes amputated.

Von Bargen was unable to open his eyes or move to open his door. He was able to remain on the phone as he waited for police to arrive at his home. Officers, who arrived at the home five minutes after von Bargen made the call, yelled at him to remain still and keep his hands where they could see them before they entered the house.

Montogmer Police Srgt. Greg Vondenhenken said von Barge was seriously injured. He was taken to Bethesda North hospital, where his condition is critical, but improving.
