Dolphins receiver Chad Johnson appeared in Broward County court this morning after being arrested yesterday on a domestic violence charge, the Daily Mail is reporting. Johnson was charged with battery and domestic violence today, and his bond was set at $2,500.
Johnson, who changed his last name back from Ochocinco after he married Evelyn Lozada on July 4, was held in Broward County Jail last night. Judge Mindy Solomon ordered him not to contact Lozada until after the incident is resolved.
While the two were at dinner, Lozada confronted Johnson with a receipt she found for a box of condoms. The argument continued on their drive home. She later told police that Johnson head-butted her when they arrived in their driveway in Davie. The 34-year-old ‘Basketball Wives’ star was treated at a hospital for the cut she sustained on her forehead.
Adam Swickle, Johnson’s lawyer, said in court today that his client “has been a resident of the state of Florida for pretty much his entire life. He has no prior offenses, and essentially, we’re asking for the court to set a standard bond.” The court was originally going to ask for a bond of $5,000 or more.
Dolphins spokesman Harvey Greene said last night that team officials are aware of the arrest and are looking to gather more information. The football player’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, hasn’t publicly commented on the case.
