“The Amazing Spider Man” cast member Rhys Ifans won’t be charged for allegedly assaulting a guard at this year’s San Diego Comic Con due to a lack of evidence regarding the reported incident. Coming by way of The Wrap, “after reviewing differing witness accounts, our prosecutors concluded there was not sufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt,” Gina Coburn, a spokeswoman for the San Diego Office of the City Attorney, revealed to the news outlet.
The battery charges stem from Ifans attendance at the 2011 event on July 22nd, where police said that he smelled of alcohol, and became angry after someone he was with failed to supply sufficient credentials to a female guard in order to get into a panel. That’s when Rhys was said to have pushed the woman, causing her to make a citizens arrest. He did make it into the hall to take part in “The Amazing Spider Man” discussions, but was later taken in and then released.
This latest news was released this past Friday. So far Ifans, or his camp, hasn’t made a comment about the charges being dropped. Director Marc Webb’s “The Amazing Spider Man” is due in theaters on July 3rd of next year. Ifans plays the villainous role of The Lizard.
